Alaska Supreme Court denies petition to return superior court judgeship to Wrangell, Petersburg, and Kake

April 28, 2022

A petition filed in the Alaska Supreme Court last month seeking the return of a superior court judgeship to Wrangell and Petersburg was denied by the court last week.

The petition argued that the Alaska Legislature created the superior court judgeship to serve the communities of Wrangell, Petersburg, and Kake but that it was improperly moved to Ketchikan after it was labeled as a position in the Ketchikan superior court by the Alaska Judicial Council.

The application named attorney Fred Triem as the applicant and the Alaska Judicial Council and the Alaska Court System as the respondents.
