Members of the Petersburg Volunteer Fire Department and their families gathered at the Scow Bay fire station to watch the USCGC Anacapa's departure on Sunday. As the cutter went by the volunteers blew the sirens and fired off a water salute from the deck guns of Fire Engine 6. The Anacapa has been stationed in Petersburg for the past 32 years and, after getting a month's worth of upgrades at boat yard in Ketchikan, will head to Port Angeles to take the place of another 110-foot cutter which is being decommissioned. The USCGC Pike, a somewhat smaller patrol vessel which has been stationed in San Francisco, is going to replace the Anacapa and is expected to arrive in Petersburg in mid-June.
