June 16, 1922 Big Joint Picnic is Great Success. Although the weather outlook appeared rather questionable Sunday morning, it did not stop a large crowd from starting out for Mason’s Place, 20 miles down the Narrows, to meet the Wrangell crowd for a joint picnic. The Americ left first with the early birds; then followed the Eunice, Lorraine, Sherman, and Odin – not to mention Jesse Ames’s pleasure yacht. Unfortunately, the Wrangell crowd did not show up until after two o’clock in the afternoon, but they came in force, using two large gas boats and an enormous scow. The weather was f...
