Field mycologist and author Noah Siegel-co-author of "Mushrooms of the Redwood Coast: A Comprehensive Guide to the Fungi of Coastal Northern California" who is currently working on a book called "Mushrooms of Cascadia"-came through Petersburg last week as part of the Rainforest Festival. Siegel presented a talk on Monday evening detailing the various species of mushrooms to be found in Southeast. The next day Siegel led two groups on a trek to gather and identify as many species as they could. Siegal offered foragers this bit of advice, "A good rule of thumb: Don't eat little brown mushrooms. There are some that are safe, but most aren't."
