The winner of the Miss Petersburg contest, run by the Chamber of Commerce, was determined by raffle ticket sales. This 1969 program was sent to us from Pennsylvania by Bob Trojan, formerly of the U.S. Coast Guard cutter Elderberry. He mentioned having "met and dated a few young ladies of your town" when stationed here from 1968 – 70. While spring cleaning Bob found this program, stored for 52 years, in the bottom of his military trunk. "I kept this program all these years out of nostalgia," he wrote. Queen Polly Martens' court consisted of Marilyn Louise Smith, Sue Erickson, Kay Hoisen, Carol Swanson, Lenore Mathisen and Cheryl Heiner.
