A storm-caused power outage plunged most of downtown Petersburg into darkness on Wednesday night. Petersburg Municipal Power and Light workers jumped into action to clear downed trees from the power lines near Petersburg Public Library. The outage was resolved within a few hours. A special weather statement from the National Weather Service said a strong low over the Gulf of Alaska is bringing a storm force front to the panhandle with wind gusts ranging from 45 to 55 mph as the front moves through, and post frontal winds at 20 to 30 mph as Wednesday turns to Thursday. More intense winds are forecasted in Petersburg on Friday morning with gusts up to 55 mph.
