Last Saturday, when President Trump's administration hosted a military parade in Washington D.C., around 125 people took part in a protest rally at Sandy Beach Park. The event, organized by Petersburg Friends and Neighbors, was one of at least 24 marches and rallies across Alaska that day and more than 2,000 No Kings protest events nationwide. While spirits were high at the park in the good weather with an abundant potluck and grilled "hot doges" being shared by all in attendance, the event was also a condemnation of authoritarianism and a sharp criticism of the administration's defiance of the courts, increasingly aggressive deportation tactics, slashing of services, and attempted politicization of the military.
