Alvin Lee Nussbaumer was born June 19, 1950, in Bremerton, Washington, to Edwin and Maxine Joy Nussbaumer. After graduating from North Kitsap High School in 1972, he enlisted in the Army and served in Germany. After his discharge he went on to earn an associate degree in electronics.
Alvin moved to Petersburg, Alaska, in 1978 and got a job at Petersburg Fisheries where he eventually became a supervisor. He also worked as a bartender at the Harbor Bar and Kito's Kave until around 2005. A very short career in construction work resulted in an injury that forced an early retirement. In later years Alvin spent his time learning to be an excellent baker, producing wonderful breads and pastries to delight his friends.
He loved spending time with a series of small rescue dogs, experimenting with hydroponic growing systems, and adding to his many collections. In the last few years he returned to work part time as a janitor for the Moose Lodge.
Alvin passed away peacefully in his sleep on October 2, 2025. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Dona Nussbaumer; mother, Maxine Joy Nussbaumer; brother, Michael Nussbaumer; sisters, Darlene Buckner and Karen Nussbaumer; as well as many nephews, nieces, cousins and their families.
Alvin's ashes will be returned to Washington according to his wish to be buried near his grandparents.
