I am concerned about the near-term effects of the passage of Proposition 1 on low to middle income seniors in Petersburg. Proposition 1 limits the Petersburg senior sales tax exemption to seniors who qualify for the State Senior Benefits Program, effective January 1, 2026. It’s been said that approximately 60 seniors will qualify for the exemption because they are already enrolled in the state’s senior benefits program.
