August 27, 1926 – There can be no question that Petersburg is growing. The city tax assessments for the year show that the amount of taxable property within the city has increased $235,373.00 within the past twelve months. It is also encouraging to note that the tax rate for the coming year will be five mills less than last year, although approximately $20,000.00 is expected to be realized through this source alone. Other revenue will bring the total up to $52,000.00, which amount it is believed will prove ample for the carrying on of the city’s business during the year.
