Work continues on the Petersburg Road Improvement Project as pavement is poured on one section and removed from another.

Matt McGuan, Project Engineer for DOWL HKM, reported that the concrete pavement has been poured on the east side of Nordic Drive in front of the Trading Union Hardware Store during a road construction progress meeting Tuesday afternoon.

“SECON has completed the installation of the storm drain pipe and structures on the Phase 2 portion of Nordic Drive,” McGuan stated. “They have also completed the demolition of Excel Street with the exception of the south sidewalk.”

McGuan also said that the installation of the storm drain pipes and structures on Excel Street are about 90 percent complete.

Over the next two weeks, SECON will finish the drain work on Excel Street and begin excavating the existing material and begin placement of the typical section; place curb and gutters on Nordic Drive and install concrete pavement on the east side of Dolphin Street.

“The pouring of the pavement will take place one lane at a time,” McGuan said. “Each portion will have to have time to cure before the other lane is poured.”

Sidewalks on Nordic Drive in front of the Harbor Bar and Island Flowers will also be installed over the next two weeks.

“Our main concern has been the requirement for Nordic Drive to be paved and open for Mayfest,” McGuan stated. “We are working to make sure that is done on time. Work will continue in other areas during that time as well.”

The next construction progress meeting will take place at 1 p.m., Tuesday, April 23 in the Petersburg Borough Assembly Chambers.
