Rain Game Classic is in full swing

The Petersburg Chamber of Commerce has sponsored the new Rain Game Classic for residents to predict the correct annual rainfall in Petersburg.

“This was suggested to our Chamber of Commerce Director Sally Dwyer by a member of the community,” Rain Game Classic Committee member Cate Kowalski said. “Sally brought it to our attention and here we are.”

The game will be conducted along the same line as the Nenana Ice Classic.

“We wanted to do something that would be fun and kind of spice up the winter months,” Kowalski stated. “We are hoping that the game will get better every year as most things do.”

Tickets for the Rain Game Classic are $2 each and the winners will get half of the total money from ticket sales. The correct annual rainfall and precipitation will include rain and snowfall as measured by NOAA's National Weather Service.

Anyone can enter as many times as they wish and the contest closes at 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, 2013. The winner will be announced Friday, January 10, 2014.

Tickets can be purchased at the Petersburg Pilot, Coastal Cold Storage and the Petersburg Chamber of Commerce.
