The Lady Vikings took second place at the 2A state volleyball tournament last weekend in Anchorage, losing the title match against the Craig Lady Panthers. The Lady Vikings earned a return trip to the state tournament with a second place finish at the region five 2A tournament last weekend in Craig. The team went 10-2 in conference this season and held a 14-2 record overall, heading into regions. The Lady Vikings wrapped up the regular season with two victories against Wrangell before the Thanksgiving break. The teams played in Petersburg on Friday and faced off in Wrangell the next night. Petersburg played host to over 10 teams last weekend for the All Comers Tournament. Head coach Jaime Cabral and the coaching staff were busy taking turns coaching three PHS squads that saw a lot of action over the weekend. Psg 3, the youngest PHS team, finished first in their pool and headed to the silver bracket. The Petersburg High School girls basketball team are the 2015-16 2A Alaska State Champions. A 3-0 record in last weekend's tournament with wins over Dillingham, Nenana, and Bristol Bay clinched the Lady Vikings' first state title in program history.
