As the Petersburg City Council opened the floor for public comment on the Capital Improvement Projects list Monday evening, a new request for funding was addressed. August 6, 1992 - Roald and Jeannie Norheim recently returned from a 10-day trip to Norway, where they were reunited with more than 200 other Norheims who came to the reunion. The family enjoyed four fabulous days of entertainment, visiting and food as only Norwegians can prepare. The islands are rugged, but beautiful. Marlena Erickson returned from a life-changing trip to Sweden last Tuesday. Erickson spent more than 11 months in Hudisvall, Sweden, which is approximately two hours north of Stockholm, as a foreign exchange student through the Petersburg Rotary Club. “I still feel like I’m in a dream,” Erickson said. “It was such an amazing experience.” Erickson explained that she was able to take a three week tour of Europe while she was there as well. Jonathan Carl Ness, 61, passed away on June 8, 2012 in Petersburg, Alaska. He was born on August 15, 1950 in Petersburg, Alaska to Leo and Ruth Ness. Jon was the second son and younger brother to Steve. He was considered a miracle baby, being born with a congenital heart defect. The Rasmuson Foundation named Petersburg artist, Ashley DuRoss an Individual Artist Award winner of a $5,000, Project Award. DuRoss is also the art teacher at Petersburg High School. Hello again. After a short break to visit family, I wanted to report, from my Corner of the House, on all the latest news. Between budgets, a special session, and redistricting, there’s a lot going on. The best news is how well the Capital Budget came out. Because the legislature worked so carefully with the governor to keep expenditures at a reasonable level, there were very few vetoes.
