The entrance to Shakes Glacier was blocked off by calving ice on Saturday. Like other glaciers that make up the Stikine Icefield, Shakes has been gradually losing ice. Since the 1980s, it has receded by approximately 1.4 miles....

Battling the elements Saturday, June 2, Petersburg's only Senior League Baseball Team played a double header against the Prince of Wales team. Inez Larson steps up to plate June 2 to face the Senior League Baseball team from Prince of Wales. The Vikings at home beat POW 11-8 in the first game and 21-11 in the second. Senior League consists of seventh graders, eighth graders and freshmen. These were their second set of games after traveling to Craig in May to play....

On Monday, June 11 a pick-up truck driven by Kalyn Luhr rear-ended a sedan driven by Deborah Robinson near the post office on Haugen Drive. According to police the sedan took evasive action to avoid deer on the roadway prior to the collision. Petersburg EMS Medics attended to the drivers and one was transported to the hospital as a precautionary measure. Luhr was cited for negligent driving....
