July 27, 1917 – Forest Service W. G. Wiegle of Ketchikan, was in town accompanied by W. H. Waugh, civil engineer, from Juneau to inspect the right-of-way of the proposed Petersburg-Scow Bay road. The road slated for completion this fall appears to have a hitch in the programme as Mr. Wiegle considers it improbable that the work will be resumed before next spring. July 13, 1917 – Up to yesterday evening, 41 cards had been filled out at the S. of N. and Trading Union by men subject to registration for military purposes under the president’s proclamation. Mayor Otness, who is acting as registrar, requests that when fishing schooners reach port the skippers see to it that all members of crew subject to registration are enrolled before the vessel again sails. By doing this they may save a hurry up trip to port when the registration period nears the end. Persons who become 21 years of age on or before Sep...
