    Petersburg Borough Parks and Recreation demolished shelter #2 at Sandy Beach Park last weekend. The shelter was rebuilt in the 1970s and rotted roof beams and decay in other portions of the shelter justified the razing of the structure, according to Parks and Rec Director Donnie Hayes. Hayes said the shelter rebuild target completion date is this fall, but added work will be accomplished as staff is able to schedule work during the busy summer.     Petersburg resident, Rich Lowell, has fished in the Petersburg salmon derby for over 15 years and finally checked off one of his goals of winning the derby when he caught a 46.5 pound King Salmon Sunday winning the $7,500 first place prize.     Petersburg Harbormaster, Glorianne Wollen, has issued an alert to the public stating there will be no more fish waste disposal allowed in Petersburg harbors effective immediately. “We have had a big problem with aggressive sea lions around the fish cleaning stations,” Wollen said. “It is nice to have the stations, but we seem to be drawing the sea lions in by the fish waste.” Wollen is asking that fishermen clean the fish and throw the waste out before they come back to the harbor, or take the waste away from the harbor after cleaning the fis... Full story
