Hammer and Wikan is attempting to purchase land from the Petersburg Borough in order to expand the square footage of their grocery store. Over a dozen volunteers showed up two weekends ago to help Petersburg Parks and Recreation and Petersburg's Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints finish a trail improvement project in the Borough. In March of 1979, Holtzinger moved to Petersburg and a month later she started her journey with the company as a meat wrapper. The Petersburg Children’s Center (PCC) is one step closer to adding an additional classroom, and capacity for a dozen more students, after a variance was approved by the Planning and Zoning Commission earlier this week. The proposed expansion includes a 20 foot addition to the building, which will expand an existing classroom and house a new one for toddlers and pre-schoolers, as well as a ramp extension and separate entrance for the room. The 34rd Annual Petersburg Chamber of Commerce King Salmon Derby gets underway this Friday at 7 a.m. The derby continues through the Memorial Day Weekend and ends Monday at 5 p.m. Two tagged fish have been released at Frederick Point. Darlyne Louise Conn, 84, passed away on January 3, 2015 at Mt. View Manor Assisted Living in Petersburg, Alaska. She was born to Oscar and Alma Nicholson (Wallen) on October 12, 1930 in Everett, Wash. and was the younger of two daughters. Dozens of youngster challenged themselves to read books this summer. Dozens of local businesses donated prizes, and it all concluded at a big pool party at the community gym on Tuesday. More than 40 children participated in the public library’s Summer Reading Challenge, competing for 64 prizes from local donors. The challenge began on May 29 and ended July 19.
