On Saturday September 10, Petersburg Police Department arrested Joshua Hall Blewett, age 28 of Petersburg, for one count of Domestic Violence related Assault. Following Blewett's arrest, officers continued to investigate and subsequently served a search warrant at Blewett's residence. Police determined a female had been assaulted, kidnapped, sexually assaulted, and assaulted with a box cutter or utility knife. WRANGELL - Emergency assistance was dispatched from Wrangell early Sunday evening, after a private boat struck a log near Farm Island. Fire Department Chief Tim Buness said emergency dispatch received a 911 call from one of the boat”s passengers at 5:23 p.m. Responders were notified and an initial unit was ready to depart within minutes. “We sent a float plane up with three medics on board,” Buness said. WRANGELL – Area golfers raised close to $6,000 over the weekend during the annual Rally for Cancer Care and Blue Tees Tournament. Money raised from the two-part tournament go to support Wrangell Medical Center Foundation's cancer care fund, which in turn provides up to $1,000 per year to patients undergoing treatment for cancer-related illness. The weather might have forced a couple participants to drop out of the postponed 3rd Annual Paddle Battle, but the number of paddlers undertaking the activity continues to increase. The Petersburg Medical Center board heard of steps being taken to set guidelines for allowing service animals and therapeutic animals in the facility. The Petersburg Medical Center board passed its annual capital and operating budget last Thursday, May 26. The $406,207 capital project list includes a new emergency room information system, a replacement chiller, a cardiac stress test/treadmill along with other equipment and infrastructure. $100,000 of that budget is directed toward facility improvement, a kind of contingency fund. He was born December 22, 1935, in Guthrie Center, Iowa, the son of Hayden and Jeanette Bailey. He was one of four children and married to Judith Chester on June 6, 1999. The Senate Finance Committee introduced a bill, SB 209, that would raise local government and school retirement contributions from 22 percent to 26.5 percent by 2018 and would likely translate to cuts in services and or tax increases locally. Vivian Elida Westre, 95, passed away February 12, 2016, with her two children at her side at Petersburg Medical Center Long Term Care. She was born July 17, 1920 in Ketchikan, Alaska to Gifford and Agnes Close. Her father built a home next to Sunny Point Cannery near where the Ketchikan ferry terminal exists today. Tom Lewis recently celebrated his 94th birthday, it was a Monday, and the fact that it was his birthday didn't change his Monday routine. Every Monday morning, he takes a cake or pie up to the residents at Long Term Care. He refers to the residents as "inmates."
