The Borough Assembly held its first reading of Ordinance #2021-16 during Tuesday's meeting which amended the Municipal Code to allow the borough to place liens on property to secure payments.

The ordinance would update the language in chapters 9.16, 14.04, 14.08, 14.12, and 14.16 of the code to be in line with legislation passed by the Alaska Legislature and signed into law. According to the ordinance, it would allow municipalities to create liens to cover the expenses of the Borough in the abatement of nuisances. The ordinance passed unanimously with a vote of 6-0 in its first reading.
