He was known by Johnny until he had a son, and then John. John lived in Petersburg until 1997 when he moved to Juneau until his death.
John was a fisherman for 35 years, then he worked for the State of Alaska for 7 years, then drove trucks for various Teamster companies till he retired.
He grew up a Catholic in Petersburg with his parents, Francis John Richmond II (Frank) and Phyllis, both deceased, and his older sister, Cherie, also deceased.
In 1976 he met Barbara Fraser at the Beachcomber Inn. They were married in February 1977. Together they had two children, Sabrina Marie of Anchorage, Alaska, and Francis John Richmond IV (Ana) of Apache Junction, Arizona. John leaves behind his grandchildren, Francis John Richmond V, Kasen Richmond and Ambar Richmond. John enjoyed both of Sabrina's furry kids' grand dog, Koa (deceased) and grand cat, River (deceased).
John loved making people laugh with his antics. Once he arrived at Blind Slough in a helicopter, bringing more beer for the picnic. Another time he arrived naked on a motorcycle to do a few brodies and come back later dressed. One Halloween, John dressed as a woman and showed up at the Beachcomber. Barbara was working and didn't know he was doing it. Her sister Debi helped him dress up and was quite shocked when she finally figured out who that woman at the bar was.
John loved going to Johnny and Sabrina's houses in Juneau to BBQ. Ham and wilted lettuce were one of the favorite Richmond dinners that he made for his kids.
A celebration of John's life will be held in Petersburg at the Harbor Bar on May 16th
at 5 p.m. and in Juneau on May 23rd at
the Sandbar at 1 p.m.
