  • Assembly advances ordinance to limit senior sales tax exemption to low-income residents

    The Petersburg Borough Assembly unanimously approved the first reading of an ordinance last week that would limit Petersburg's sales tax exemption for seniors to only those with low incomes. Currently, all Petersburg residents aged 65 and older who have lived in the borough for at least one year qualify for sales tax exemption, regardless of income.     Needing a series win to keep their postseason hopes alive, the Petersburg high school baseball team battled the Ketchikan Kings at home this past weekend. In game one, the Vikings lost 12-0, committing seven errors. In game two, the Vikings put themselves in a 9-0 deficit by the top of the third inning.     Charles Henry Christian was born on December 26, 1937, in Morton, Washington, to William and Marie Christian. Growing up on a farm near Elbe, Washington, Charlie enjoyed his free time hunting and fishing along the banks of the Nisqually River and Lake Alder, at the base of Mount Rainier.
