    The school board met for its monthly meeting Tuesday, and worked its way through a full agenda including the FY17 budget, changes to student handbooks and an activity fee increase.     Soon-to-be PHS senior Izabelle Ith traveled to Kodiak last Saturday to compete against the top track and field athletes in Alaska. Ith, coming off another impressive season, earned the invitation to the event and took home three first place finishes. Ith won the triple jump, long jump and 4x400 meter relay.     Petersburg High track and field took 15 athletes to the state meet in Anchorage last week, and the girls team scored enough points to earn third place out of 29 1A/2A/3A teams. The number of competitors was the most head coach Brad Taylor had ever taken to the season finale, and every Viking scored points in at least one event.     The Petersburg High School baseball team wrapped up the season hosting Regionals last weekend. They dropped their final two games after winning the tournament opener. The team made some defensive mistakes allowing opponents to tack on runs, but all and all, head coach Jim Engell was pleased with the weekend and the team's performance. Thirty-three seniors were members of this year's class, which PHS principal Rick Dormer described as the "nicest" group of people he's encountered.     The weather finally cooperated with sunny conditions for the track and field teams last weekend in Ketchikan. PHS took over 30 athletes and 20 middle schoolers also made the trip to compete.     A mock car crash staged in the parking lot behind the community gym kept local emergency crews and students busy for a good part of the morning last Thursday. Students from the eighth grade up to seniors in high school witnessed a drunk driver, played by Kyle Clayton, getting arrested after causing an accident.     Karen Hofstad has a collection of a couple hundred or so seafood related cans and labels that would make fishing industry historians salivate.     The Petersburg School Board approved the employment of two new teachers within the district. Eliza Warmack will join staff as a 5th grade teacher beginning in the 2016-17 school year and Rowan Beraza will be a secondary language arts and Spanish teacher beginning the same time.
