The results of the 2015 School Climate and Connectedness Survey Report are in and have given the Petersburg School District a gauge of how the district is perceived to be operating. It was a survey taken last spring by students and staff. They answered a different set of questions based on multiple categories like peer climate and school safety. Viking wrestlers headed to Craig last weekend for three days of nonstop matches with teams including Craig, Ketchikan, Mt. Edgecumbe and Wrangell. The Clausen Museum Board hired Petersburg local Kathi Riemer as the new Museum Director this month. Riemer, retired administrator from the Juneau School District, said she plans to bring her skills from that position to the museum. The Petersburg School Board delayed a vote on its new memorial policy so board members can receive more feedback from the public. The policy would, in part, limit the display of student memorials to a two-week period. The memorial policy has sparked a variety of reactions from community members, some of whom expressing frustration because previous Petersburg High School student Jake Madsen’s memorial would be taken down should the School Board approve the policy. Viking volleyball continued their domination of 2A division opponents at the South Seeding Tournament last weekend in Wrangell. The girls went 5-0, winning every set they played, and only allowing opponents to score more than 10 points in four sets. Matches were best of three sets, due to Wrangell only having one court. Patty Biggers moved to Petersburg in 1989, and went right to work at the Children's Center. Petersburg High School wrestlers traveled to Ketchikan last weekend for the Bill Weiss Invitational, but only a handful of the squad made the trip. Six wrestlers participated in the event, the rest stayed home because they were feeling under the weather due to illness or were injured. Petersburg volleyball had a great weekend overall, finishing third at the Juneau Invitational, a Varsity only tournament with tough competition. Head coach Jaime Cabral said the team's effort and performance was the best that he's been a part of since he began coaching in Southeast.
