    Commercial aviation in Alaska dates back to 1927. In 1936, Ellis Airlines was formed in Ketchikan by Bob Ellis. The fleet of 10 Grumman Goose amphibious aircraft were well-suited to travel in Southeast Alaska. Alaska Coastal Airlines of Juneau merged with Ellis in 1962, creating the largest fleet of Grumman Goose in the world.     April 8, 1921 The biggest social affair ever pulled off in Petersburg was held last Saturday night by the Petersburg Lodge No 702, L.O.O. Moose as a benefit for the Petersburg Hospital.     March 18, 1921 Four fires occurred within the past week all of which were extinguished by the Fire Department in short order. Only one house, that of Pete Skog was damaged to any extent, the others being confined to the roof. The first fire occurred last Friday when the roof of the big green house in the rear of the Brennans Pool hall caught fire around the chimney. This was quickly extinguished without damage.
