Service's Ezra Corwin-Hogue came in 7 hundredths of a second faster than Aulbach in the prelims, but the next day, when... Full story

The Petersburg High School Vikings volleyball team opened the regular season last weekend by hosting the Juneau-Douglas Crimson Bears for two days of games. Petersburg’s team is particularly young this season, after graduating nine volleyball seniors last year; leaving one senior, 12 sophomores, and seven freshmen. “We could be the youngest varsity team in the state,” said PHS head coach Jaime Cabral. With such youth comes inexperience, but Coach Cabral describes the group as very athle...
Throughout this sunny summer, and thanks in large part to the continued success of The Market, locally grown produce was more available in Petersburg than any time in recent memory. But it begs the question, why hasn’t local produce been more available in town, and what stops people around here from growing their own food? To examine these questions we visit the gardens of some of this season’s most abundant food growers to talk about techniques they’ve used to overcome the commonly perce...

The Lady Braves, on the other hand, are an experienced team with many girls coming back who played a lot of minutes last year, according to Vikings girls coach Dino Brock. But what this years Vikings squad lacks in experience they make up for with energy and effort. “We went in e...
The Vikings played their first basketball game of the season last weekend in Ketchikan. It was an endowment game, which means it won’t count toward either team’s season record. “The game started out a little rough for us,” said Vikings head coach Rick Brock. That’s to be expected starting the season out against a 4A team. The Ketchikan varsity played a full court press throughout the first quarter, and effectively shutdown the Viking offense. “Their full court pressure really bothered us...
