Lifelong Petersburg resident Jerald (Jerry) Alan Kvernvik, 82, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by loved ones on July 22, 2021. He was born in Petersburg, Alaska, January 15, 1939 to Anna (Mathisen) and Marvin Kvernvik, the oldest of three children. He attended school and graduated from Petersburg High School. The Petersburg School Board had a work session Friday to outline preliminary ideas for COVID-19 guidelines for when students return. July 1, 1921 Active work on the Petersburg Scow Bay road was started this week by a force of men under the direction of John Lanterman for the Bureau of Public Roads. Four horses arrived from the south on the scow early this week and the work of surfacing the roadbed at once started. The horses were brought from Seattle to Hyder by steamer and then transferred to a scow and brought to Ketchikan and from there to Petersburg. Arnold Martin Enge, a lifelong Petersburg gillnetter who plied the waters of Southeast Alaska for six decades and was a respected advocate for his fellow fishermen, died at home on Sing Lee Alley in June. May 20, 1921 Fire on Tuesday of this week damaged the home of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Ohmer to the extent of about $25. The fire originated from a spark lighting on the dry roof, but it was extinguished soon after the arrival of the department.
